The search for 16 oil workers missing after their helicopter crashed into the Atlantic off Newfoundland has now been called off.
Officials say it is unlikely the missing workers could have survived.
Rescue officials say the mission is now one of recovery.
A spokesman says the search ended after 34 hours, adding that it has gone beyond the 24-hour life expectancy time for someone in a survival suit.
A U.S. Border Patrol helicopter went down Thursday night near the San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station, the FAA said.
The McDonnell Douglas 600N, with three people on board, made a forced landing because of engine trouble.
The three people were able to exit the helicopter on their own and were taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Aerial images showed the chopper sitting on the edge of the surf, just north of the nuclear plant. The aircraft was significantly damaged, authorities said.
KABUL: A senior Afghan Army general was killed Thursday in a helicopter crash in western Afghanistan, and two British soldiers died in a blast in the south on Wednesday, officials said.
The general, Fazaludin Sayar, one of four regional commanders, was in charge of the entire west of the country.
His helicopter, an Mi-17, hit bad weather in the morning and went down in the Adraskan District of Herat Province, the Defense Ministry said. All 12 others aboard also were killed, it said. The helicopter had been headed to a neighboring province, Farah.

BAGHDAD (Reuters) – Two U.S. Black Hawk helicopters collided while landing at an American combat outpost in northern Baghdad on Saturday, the U.S. military said.
One Iraqi soldier was killed and two American and two Iraqi soldiers were injured, military spokesman Lieutenant Patrick Evans said in an e-mail to Reuters.

A male helicopter pilot and three female passengers were killed when the helicopter crashed and burst into flames in the Bungle Bungle National Park about 1:00pm (0600GMT), police said.

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (CNN) — A helicopter crashed into an oil drilling platform off the coast of Dubai, killing all seven people on board, officials said Thursday.
Among the victims were an American and a Briton, said Hanan Moussa of the United Arab Emirates’ General Civil Aviation Authority.
Also killed were two Indians, a Pakistani, a Filipino and a Venezuelan, Moussa said.
