ATHENS, Greece: The state Athens News Agency says an 18-year-old Romanian woman died when a wall of the compound where she was housed collapsed during a mild earthquake.
The 4.0-magnitude earthquake struck at 7:10 a.m. (0510 GMT) Sunday at sea off the Peloponnese, 195 kilometers (122 miles) southwest of Athens. Quakes of that magnitude occur frequently in Greece, causing little or no damage and generating little attention.
Several parts of Pakistan, including the federal capital, were today rocked by an earthquake measuring six on the Richter scale.
The quake, which had its epicentre in the Hindu Kush mountain range and occurred at about 4.15 am, shook Islamabad, the North West Frontier Province, parts of Punjab province and the Northern Areas. The local met office said.
There were no reports of loss of life or damage to property.
A series of powerful earthquakes rocked Manokwari, the capital of West Papua, on Sunday, killing four people, injuring dozens and destroying hundreds of buildings.
One 7.3-magnitude tremor was felt as far away as Australia and sent small tsunamis into Japan’s southeastern coast, the Associated Press reported.
The first quake, magnitude 7.6, struck at 4:43 a.m. local time about 135 kilometers from Manokwari at a depth of 35 kilometers, the U.S. Geological Survey said. Dozens of aftershocks followed.

The earthquake swarm, the biggest in more than 20 years, is being closely monitored by scientists and emergency authorities.
The series of small quakes included three last Friday which measured stronger than magnitude 3.0. The strongest since this latest swarm of quakes began on December 27 was 3.9.
No damage has yet been reported but scientists say this level of activity - there have been more than 500 tremors in the last week - is highly unusual.
A 7.6-magnitude earthquake hit Indonesia’s West Papua province at 7:33 a.m. on Sunday (2233 GMT on Saturday), according to the Indonesian Meteorology and Geophysics Agency (BMG).
The quake was a strong aftershock following a 7.2-magnitude earthquake which jolted eastern Indonesia’ West Papua at 4:43 a.m. local time on Sunday (1943 GMT Saturday), Indonesia’s leading website Detik News quoted BMG as saying.
The epicenter of the 7.6-magnitude aftershock was 0.88 degrees southern latitude and 133.38 degrees eastern longitude with a depth of 10 km below the sea level, the BMG said.
JAKARTA, Indonesia (AP) — A strong earthquake in remote eastern Indonesia cut power lines, cracked building walls and sent panicked residents running out of their homes toward higher ground Sunday, authorities and witnesses said.
The Indonesian Meteorology and Seismology Agency warned that with a preliminary magnitude of 7.2 it was strong enough to cause a tsunami. However, there were no immediate reports of giant waves and the warning was lifted within an hour.
A major earthquake struck Sunday near the northern coast of West Papua, Indonesia, the U.S. Geological Survey said.
The magnitude-7.6 tremblor occurred about 4:43 a.m. (2:43 p.m. Saturday ET), about 95 miles (150 kilometers) west-northwest of Manokwari, Indonesia, and about 105 miles (170 kilometers) east-northeast of Sorong, two cities in the Indonesian province of West Papua.
Southern Sweden was rocked by an earthquake early on Tuesday morning which caused a flood of phone calls to emergency services operators from alarmed residents.
“The bed shook for about 20 seconds,” Helsingborg resident John O’Leary told The Local.
O’Leary said the quake woke him at about 6:20am and that the shaking knocked over several items in his apartment.
Uppsala University seismologist Reynir Bödvarsson estimated the quake measured between 4.5 and 5.0 on the Richter scale.
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Two moderate earthquakes rattled remote locations in Alaska on Friday, according to the U.S. National Earthquake Center.
A magnitude 5.3 quake struck 13 miles west northwest of the Alaska town of Anchor Point, which is about 200 miles south of Anchorage. About a minute later, a magnitude 5.1 quake occurred about 28 miles southwest of Cantwell, Alaska, which is about 200 miles north of Anchorage.
JAKARTA (AFP) — A powerful 6.0-magnitude earthquake struck at sea off Indonesia’s Sumatra island, the US Geological Survey said Friday, but there were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.
The quake struck 141 kilometres (88 miles) southwest of the city of Bengkulu at a depth of 35 kilometres at 3:50 pm (0850 GMT), the USGS said in an email alert.
A geologist at Indonesia’s geophysics agency told AFP no tsunami alert had been issued for the quake.
