Two more victims of DIA plane crash released from hospital
Two more people injured in last Saturday’s plane crash at Denver International Airport have been released from the hospital, officials said today.
Among those released was the pilot of the Continental jet that veered off the runway, slid nearly half a mile into a ravine and caught fire, airline officials told CBS 4.
Two people remain hospitalized in fair condition at the University of Colorado Hospital, a spokeswoman said.
Continental 1404 was carrying 115 passengers and crew members enroute to Houston when it crashed last Saturday evening, injuring 38.
Officials with the National Transportation Safety Board still haven’t determined what caused the crash. Investigators say they have good information from the plane’s voice and data recorders.
The charred wreckage of the twin-engine Boeing 737-500 still sits on the snow-covered ravine at DIA, where it came to rest after its aborted takeoff.
“The plan now is to move the plane sometime early next week to a ramp (at) DIA for further investigations,” said Bridget Serchak, spokeswoman for the National Transportation Safety Board.
Serchak said she didn’t know the exact day when the plane would be moved, adding that the plan was tentative.
Continental Airlines said today it had started the process of returning luggage and other personal belongings that passengers left onboard the plane when they evacuated, according to CBS 4.
The items must be cleaned and inspected before they can be returned, so the process could take a couple weeks.
